Medeni mjesec na Santoriniju / Honeymoon at Santorini

Da! Rekla sam svoje DA od prethodnog posta o djevojačkoj večeri, no neću o tome pisati post, neka detalji ostanu naše uspomene, a na instagram profilu ćete moći pogledati pokoju fotku 🙂 Nego… Santorini… Uh! Let traje vrlo kratko (cca 2h) i čim sletite i osjetite taj zrak tamo, zaboravljate na put do tamo i jednostavno uživate.

Yes! I said YES since the previous post about bachelorette party, but I will not write a post about it, the details will be our memories, and on my instagram profile you will be able to look at some photos 🙂 Well… Santorini … Uh! How do I summarize the overall impression of Santorini in a short enough post that everyone will read ?! I will try to answer all of your questions that you have ask me through Instagram or elsewhere, and the first and most common question was “is it expensive?” It is difficult to answer that question, because everyone is looking at it from a different point of view, but I will compare prices with some of our cities to make it easier for you to make a decision about whether to visit Santorini … So the prices on Santorini are most similar to our Dubrovnik ( from our experience). Some things / services are cheaper, some more expensive, but the experience, experience and memories you get going there are, I believe, definitely something worth spending money on. The exact price of the plane and the accommodation can not be confirmed because it was a gift, but in the case of Santorini, I would say that the price of the plane is far more cheaper than the accommodation there. You can always find agencies or some special offers that offer a cheap airplane tickets, but most often from the cities of some other countries (Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria …) We have specifically flew from Ljubljana. The flight lasts for a very short time (approx. 2h) and as soon as you land and feel the air there, you forget the travelling there and you just enjoy it.

Furthermore, we were in a hotel in the place named Kamari, one of several “famous” places on the island, just far enough away from every place you want to visit. The Kamari is known for the beach with black sand, made of volcano, the most beautiful sunrise, the sweetest streets and as a very nice tourist resort. There we rented a quad, which I definitely recommend to everyone, because it consumes very little fuel and you can visit the whole island with it. Apart from quad you can rent scooters, cars, baggys etc. It is important that you know at least a little bit of bargaining, unlike me, and you will have luck haha. Our luck was that they lowered the price when they heard that we were on a honeymoon, it was cute to them. 1: 0 for us.

Food there.. well meat lovers would be delighted because they have a lot of meat dishes in their offer. Some of the most famous Greek specialties are gyros, moussaka, souvlaki etc. I can not say it’s not good, but I can not say I’m thrilled (except for Greek salad). I, as a true lover of Italian and Chinese food, I ate pizza and pasta wherever it was on the menu and visited the Chinese restaurant as soon as I saw it haha. Prices in restaurants are about € 40 for two people, if we talk about one meal and one drink per person. But there are also bakeries, many of them, one of them has received prize for the best one on the island, so you can try out specialties at cheaper prices there.

When talking about drinks, people there do not drink coffee as we do, so there is rarely good coffee to drink, if you find it, it is too expensive. But for bear and wine, they have a lot of native species and really different to satisfy each palate. and many locals, from the Irish pub that won Trip Advisor award, to luxury cocktail bars …

There is a lot of attractions, as mentioned above, one of the most interesting black and red beaches created by volcanic eruptions. You can see the Black Beach in Kamari and Perissa, and the red beach is located near the Akrotiri village. Then, Oia (or how they say Ia) is the most beautiful / most luxurious / most popular part of the island known for its recognizable white houses and blue roofs. The prices there are really high, but the place is really beautiful and magical. There is the most beautiful sunset and the most beautiful view of the sea and the other islands, ever! But also the biggest crowds, so prepare for it before and take a looot of water. Then, there is Thira (or Fira), the capital and there are most restaurants, most nightclubs (though generally a few of them on the whole island) and most shops. Santorini is also known for windmills, cats and donkeys that can be found at every corner. The vineyards and the wine museum (among the top 10 in the world) are also the attraction of Santorini. And for the end, as a special thing, people are sooooooo kind and accessible, which will make sure that the trip there is definitely memorable.

Their season begins at the end of the May, but it is already indescribably hot, so prepare for the extremely low and hot sun where even I managed to get a nice color. Also, be prepared to have no tap water, so go to the grocery store before going anywhere on the island for bottled water.

The sea is very different from our Adriatic. I do not know how to describe it differently, it is warm, but unusual for swimming because of the color of that sand, so it is no wonder the fact that almost every house / hotel / apartment has a swimming pool in the yard.

We would definitely return either there or to any other Greek island because it engraved into our memory as a wonderful destination. Many come here to marry, engage or to honeymoon, so I can conclude that it is ideal for couples, but if you do not have a partner, no worry, it’s definitely worth seeing, alone or with your friends, it’s important to forget about all your worries and responsibilities because this is the experience that Santorini provides. Enjoy the photos!
